Opopanax (Sweet Myrrh) - granules - 2oz

Opoponax  - Commiphora (erythraea or kataf) also known as  sweet myrrh is a cousin of the healing Myrrh—Commiphora Myrrha—but with a warm-balsamic and sweet, honey-like aroma. It is a natural oleo-gum-resin like myrrh and frankincense.

We are offering this resin in a corse granule form for ease of use. The larger pieces of Opoponax are very hard to work with.

"A scent reminiscent of the cork of a sherry bottle or an old  library full of Secrets"

This is the first time we have carried Opopanax, for this is first time we found some that was of good quality and scent...It needs a really hot climate to grow well and with a rich fragrance, ours is from Kenya.

Opopanax is thought to be an incense of protection, its smoke creating an aura or shield of protection against misfortune. It is also thought by some cultures increase intuition and awareness.

"The name opopanax derives from Anglo-Norman opopanac, from Latin opopanax, from Hellenistic Greek ὀποπάναξ, from Ancient Greek ὀπός "vegetable juice" + πάναξ "panacea" (all healing). Panacea (Gk. πανάκεια) denotes a kind of savory, named for Panakeia, a daughter of Aesculapius.

African opopanax is the resin of Commiphora kataf

Opopanax, a major export article from Africa since ancient times, is also known as bisabol - bissa bol (Hindi) and as hebbakhade - habak hadi (Somali). "bissa bol" is scented myrrh, in contrast to "heera bol", bitter myrrh."

We sell this resin in 2 forms, 2 oz bags of clean sorted heater size pieces, and 2 oz. bags of tiny fine sifted pieces for mixing into blends. A lot of  time is taken to sort and size and clean the raw resin, but we think it is worth it to offer our customers the best.
